about duncan e stafford

I have been interested in therapeutic interventions for the last 20 years. Initially this came through my work in education, where I have taught young people with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties, moderate learning difficulties and specific learning difficulties (such as dyslexia and dyspraxia) both in private practice and in special schools. I have also taught in the mainstream education system.

During the mid-1990s I became increasingly interested in psychological ways of working with people of all ages and, since 1996, I have undertaken various qualifications in counselling, therapy and psychology. These include:

  • Developmental psychology (Open University)
  • Advanced diploma in counselling (University of Cambridge)
  • Postgraduate diploma in counselling (University of Cambridge).

For me, an important part of training to become the therapist I am is that I have also spent many hours in therapy. This helps me to understand the difficulties you may have in coming to counselling or therapy. My own experience of therapy has given my practice a Jungian influence, although I also draw on ideas from a number of other therapeutic models within psychodynamic, humanistic and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) frameworks. My work experience

As a therapist, mentor and facilitator I have worked in numerous settings:

Counselling in a Psychological Treatments Service within the NHS

Counselling students at the University of Cambridge

Facilitating groups of young offenders (male and female)

Group facilitation with young women in severe welfare need

Mentoring for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and am bound by the BACP's Ethical Framework for Good Practice. I am also a UKRCP registered independent counsellor. You can view my details at www.bacp.co.uk and www.ukrconline.org.uk
